Restaurant at Fox & Hounds Country Inn Description

There is no doubt about it when it comes to old coaching inns tucked away in robust villages amongst the dales, Yorkshire has it all. No wonder they want to make it possible for the people who have always lived there to go on doing so instead of being priced out by affluent townies. And should you decide to stay awhile amidst its ancient charm you will be glad to know the family dog is as welcome at the Fox and Hounds as you are - always a healthy sign.

Their menu says that at lunch they concentrate on something light, to which I can only imagine that the average southerner would be floored not long after the start of the main course. In the evenings however, the team in the kitchen really get to work; think Peking pancakes with crispy duck, chilli jam and dipping sauce. Slow roasted belly pork loses all its elasticity and the roast garlic and cracked chilli sauce challenges the strength of the meat.

The bread and butter pudding with apricot glaze and warm vanilla sauce is a legend of the area, a deciding point in its own right. A short wine list does the business and house selections start at £11.50.

What a little gem - I stumbled upon it quite by accident one Sunday evening and had a lovely meal and the veal was excellent. We ate in the bar area which had a cosy, informal atmosphere. I look forward to returning next time I'm over that way.

I went for a meal on an evening in November, the best fillet steak we had in a long time and everything else what went with it, you can even take your dog. I recommend it to anyone. I give five stars.
