Mrs Era Rhyddid (31 August 2007)

Having eaten both in the restaurant and in Spencer's Bar, I have found the food excellent both in quality and in value for money which is essential for any place to eat. The starters were delightful. The meat was cooked to my specification and the vegetables tempting and tender. The puddings were exquisite and just the right size. My only criticism is that the roast potatoes were not crispy and large with a fluffy inside. Whenever I have visited Llandrindod I always look forward to dining at the Metropole.

Three courses available for dinner. Soup to start no particular comfort here I’m afraid. Main course meat dish in this case roast Radnorshire beef not exactly succulent and was not asked how I would like it so had to accept what was given me, the vegetables were steamed potatoes without particular taste and as we were sat close to the kitchen thought I could hear the distinct sound of a microwave bell!

Sweet course had the most taste, apple lattice with custard, very nice but I suspect that with the numbers of covers it was bought in and not made on site. Good selection of wines albeit with hotel mark up.

Service from staff good although large contingent of Polish staff, who, whilst having the basics of English, could not understand anything more challenging. The head waitress was English and had a sharp tongue to boot. The restaurant was modern pleasant decor. Pity the food wasn’t more modern or tasty. 0.5/5
