Restaurant at Pebble Beach
Marine Drive, Barton-on-Sea, nr New Milton, BH25 7DZ
There are times in life when the phrase "and now for something a little different" seem pretty inadequate. If Pebble Beach was located somewhere in, say, the Greek islands, it would be regarded as pleasant but unremarkable. Set in Southern England it is truly very different from the average restaurant with rooms, with spectacular views over to the Needles, out to sea, and a strong continental flavour. Head Chef Pierre Chevillard sees to it that the freshness and simplicity of a cosmopolitan cuisine prevails, with all the confidence of man who earned his Michelin star during his 24 years at Chewton Glen. Starters may consist of a Breton style fish soup, served with croutons, rouille and gruyère cheese, or a crispy duck salad on rocket, watercress, bean sprouts and mouli with an orange and hoi sin dressing. There are times in life when the phrase "and now for something a little different" seem pretty inadequate. No surprise that the main courses have a distinctly maritime inclination - after all in theory you have only to cast a line from the beach to be in with a chance - so let's start with grilled fillet of smoked haddock, served on a bubble and squeak cake with a lightly poached egg and whole grain mustard jus. The hock of pork is braised in Burley cider a and served with pan-fried black pudding, apple mash and honey roasted carrots, and the pan-fried noisettes of Scottish venison with potato, celeriac rosti, roasted pear, spinach and blackberry jus are an alliance made in a gastronomic heaven.
Not for nothing was Pierre an outstanding sous chef for much of his time at Chewton Glen, and old habits die hard. A chargrilled tropical fruit brochette with caramelised rice pudding and piña colada sorbet raises more than a few eyebrows.
They are likely to remain raised during a cursory scan of the wine list, clearly the work of somebody who knows wine and the people who drink it.
Everything about Pebble Beach is special - you are strongly advised to enjoy it.

REVIEWS OF Restaurant at Pebble Beach
Domat (21 September 2011)
Having eaten at Pebble Beach on numerous occasions my wife and I count ourselves as a huge fans. The location is wonderful and if the weather's on your side, there really isn't a better view to behold whilst you eat. The food is always perfection and it's fair to say I have tried near on most of the menu and have not been disappointed yet. The fruits de mer is superb and the shared dessert is to die for. (The head chef was at the Chewton Glen for 20 odd years before taking the reigns at Pebble Beach and it definitely shows!!). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for somewhere for an intimate dinner or perhaps a group gathering - we had our Christmas party there last year and all 13 of us were very well taken care of. 9 out of 10.

What a wonderful evening I recently spent at Pebble Beach. I've been wanting to visit the restaurant for a long time having heard so much about it and I wasn't disappointed. We started with an aperitif in the bar which has a great buzz with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The menu really does have something for everyone and I found it pretty hard to make a choice. Our waiter's recommendations and knowledge of the dishes helped us make an informed deicison and the scallops starter and duck breast in blackcurrant sauce were delicious. My dining partner was equally pleased with his haddock souffle and melt-in-the-mouth Braised Beef cheek. The restaurant setting really is outstanding and it's probably hard to find a better view while you enjoy an after-dinner coffee. I can't wait to go back.
