Restaurant at Penhelig Arms Hotel
27-29 Terrace Road, Aberdovey, nr Aberdyfi, LL35 0LT
The Penhelig Arms is an 18th century inn located on the picturesque Dovey estuary in Aberdovey, where guests can enjoy beautiful harbour views from the comfortable and luxurious deluxe suites. The Fisherman's Bar is a reputed hotspot for locals and visitors where they can relax and enjoy a pint of real ale while they grab a quick bite to eat. But it is the restaurant with its fresh and inventive brasserie style cooking that is the real draw there. Starters such as grilled fillet of mullet or trout with flaked almonds can be followed by roast rack of local lamb served pink with roasted root vegetables and rosemary jus. For dessert there is the delicious warm chocolate, orange and hazelnut brownie served with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream or eton mess. The Penhelig Arms is an 18th century inn located on the picturesque Dovey estuary in Aberdovey, where guests can enjoy beautiful harbour views from the comfortable and luxurious deluxe suites. REVIEWS OF Restaurant at Penhelig Arms Hotel
D. Lord (20 April 2007)
We have been previously and been disappointed with the meal but wanted to give it another try. We were staying in the area for two birthday celebrations and four of us dined. Although our overall experience, in particular the service, was favourable, we were disappointed with several aspects. I have to say that we have complained directly to the hotel and have not received a courtesy of a reply.
All four starters were poorly executed. Rubbery, overcooked squid and under-ripe superfluous melon. Mains were better with one excellent, one good, one sad (£4 surcharge for "extra large sea bass" which was smaller than average, half the size we had seen on other tables and overcooked) and one frozen.
Desserts were superb. Wine list and service excellent. Other than the location, I cannot understand why people travel to eat here. Presumably there is a lack of other good eating establishments locally and it is a busy tourist spot? Very disappointed that the owners do not think they need to address issues such as this.
