Restaurant at Penhelig Arms Hotel

It is not often that one can speak with almost total enthusiasm about a place, in an area such as restaurants where many are the pits prepared for poltroons.

But the Penhelig Arms on the estuary of the Dovey is unreservedly such a place. Fronting on to the water, with a little terrace where one can sit, glass in hand, and watch the sun go down over the dunes and the bar at the estuary mouth before meandering in to contemplate the delights awaiting, you arrive at your table smiling.

Few restaurants can boast fresher fish, straight from the quay. The meat is superb and due deference is paid to the wonderful fresh produce of the region. Try the Pwdin (Welsh pudding).

Staff are friendly, entertaining and efficient in keeping with the relaxed, informal and un-fussy atmosphere that prevails throughout.

The Italian-influence house wine list changes monthly with 14 available by the glass. A wonderful selection of real beers are kept - and I do mean kept.

The regular clientele who return repeatedly, as to the Holy Grail, bear eloquent testimony to this wonderful haven which cannot be faulted.
