Restaurant at Shibden Mill Inn Description

Adrian Jones, formerly of Jaks in Chelsea, has quit London for the joys of living in Yorkshire and can now be found creating traditional British food at Shibden Mill, a few pancake throws from Halifax. The idea seems to be to eschew urban aspirations almost completely and get on with such delights as wild mushroom dumplings in a broth with pieces of ham hock for laughs. The British sausage features large, though I don't recall seeing the pigeon and black pudding variety before, but how original. The humble Ploughman's is not neglected and Cornish cod is served with crispy whitebait and a leek and potato - wait for it - pye. Don't ask, just go and find out, you'll enjoy it. Upstairs there's a smart restaurant serving exactly the same food as below stairs but with heightened panache. The wine list is good with decent house wine at £9.90 a bottle.

Your Reviews of Restaurant at Shibden Mill Inn

Alan Moore (13 October 2008)

My wife and I have eaten at the Shibden Mill Inn on many occasions. We have never been disappointed with the food, which has consistently been of a very high standard. There is a friendly bar area, and I can recommend the Shibden Mill Inn's own bitter; which is always an excellent pint. This is a traditional country inn of a type seldom found these days. It's a treasure, which any aficionado of good food, quality ales, and beautiful country pubs must surely appreciate.

Mrs. Margaret Murphy (22 March 2008)

My husband, daughter and son-in-law went there and we were all very disappointed with the service. They did not have chilled Cloudy Bay wine although it was on the board downstairs. My husband asked for beer which they forgot to serve and his main meal of fillet steak was not good. We were surprised as this place has a good reputation and we didn't see why.
