Restaurant at Sign of the Angel
6 Church Street, Lacock, nr Chippenham, SN15 2LB
In the 15th century, a wool merchant built a house for his family in the Wiltshire village of Lacock; today, the oak-panelled lounge At The Sign of The Angel reflects the warmth of his family home. Since 1953, the Levis family has run this remarkable restaurant and hotel with enthusiasm and friendship. The restaurant is renowned for traditional and seasonal English cooking. Breakfasts feature the inn's own eggs, locally-cured bacon, homemade bread and Mrs Levis's marmalade. Lunch and dinner concentrate on traditional roasts, fish fresh from Cornwall and herbs, vegetables and asparagus from the kitchen garden. All the puddings are made on the premises. The beautiful old staircase looks down on a courtyard and gardens, and crackling log fires, squeaky floorboards and oak panels and beams add up to a quintessential English inn.In the 15th century, a wool merchant built a house for his family in the Wiltshire village of Lacock; today, the oak-panelled lounge At The Sign of The Angel reflects the warmth of his family home.

Lacock is the archetypal English village, with winding streets, Gothic-arched grey-stone houses and half-timbered cottages. William Fox-Talbot, maker of the world's first photographic prints in 1833, lived here, and his house is now a world-famous museum of photography.

REVIEWS OF Restaurant at Sign of the Angel
Rob and Eileen (8 May 2008)
The highlight of a delightfully sunny Tuesday in Lacock was our lunch at Sign of the Angel. We chose the fixed lunch beginning with a delicious Stilton and walnut pâté, served with just the right amount of crisp toast. This was followed by my pork medallions, which were complemented by a delicious sauce and tasty vegetables. My wife's choice of sea bass was also excellent. Great value in lovely surroundings and full of character - we can't wait to go back.
Mac & Micki Swann (10 March 2008)
We have just had the great pleasure of spending a weekend at this delightful hotel. The accommodation was simply first class, the restaurant, where my husband celebrated his birthday was superb and the staff throughout were friendly and exceptionally helpful. We hope to return very soon.
