Restaurant at Sopwell House

Cottonmill Lane, Sopwell, St Albans, AL1 2HQ

Sopwell House was once the Georgian country home of Lord Mountbatten and today, in its new role as a friendly country house hotel provides an excellent setting for a romantic wedding with those added special touches, a corporate event or a quiet vacation with the family. The airy interior with beautiful lighting fixtures and well spaced tables are some of the eye-catching features in the restaurant, and on the food side expect some serious British cooking. Smoked Scottish salmon with horseradish crème fraîche, micro cress salad and lemon oil, and pressed terrine of smoked chicken and Gressingham duck might precede a main course of roasted rack of lamb in the company of herb crust, dauphinoise potatoes, redcurrant jelly jus, rosemary oil and buttered green beans and shallots.

REVIEWS OF Restaurant at Sopwell House

Hannah (22 March 2009)

The food was fabulous, but the service was bad and the atmosphere was chaotic and disorganised, and we waited forever before being served. A few things were dropped and others were having trouble accessing normal things like high-chairs. It’s really disappointing considering the painfully high price.

Murray (9 May 2008)

The food was well cooked and tasted good, and the menu was varied. The service was very slow and I expect to have better service for the price.
