Restaurant at The Angel Inn
High Street, Heytesbury, nr Warminster, BA12 0ED
A former coaching inn now well able to cope with pressures of the modern travelling age the Angel offers fairly traditional food in cheerful surroundings to a blend of tourists and locals alike. A starter of grilled asparagus with roasted red peppers and aged balsamic vinegar make a pleasant seasonal variation, or a game terrine distinguished by a gherkin relish and grilled bread. Wild boar are on the increase throughout the country and the leafy glades of Wiltshire yield their fair quota of this tasty meat, even if it does come with apple in sausage form served with grain mustard mash and red onion gravy. The sultana and almond pudding makes a worthy conclusion to events, though it's quite a while since I've seen a cheese board of such distinction - Devon Oke and Ash Pyramid to name but two.A former coaching inn now well able to cope with pressures of the modern travelling age the Angel offers fairly traditional food in cheerful surroundings to a blend of tourists and locals alike.
