Located in the heart of Tongue, on the northern coast of highland Scotland is the Ben Loyal Hotel with splendid views over the Sutherland landscape. The in-house An Garbh Restaurant has a lot of things going for it, like the scenic views of the Kyle of Tongue, the mountain for which the hotel is named and the ruin of Varrich Castle, together with delicious food and wine. The hotel even has its own fishing boats bringing in the freshest of the lobsters and crab from Cape Wrath and Loch Erribol langoustines.

The trained chefs turn out lobster thermidore served in a cream, garlic and parmesan sauce, and Cajun breast of chicken with basmati rice, spicy salsa and crème fraîche. Thai crab cakes accompanied by spring onion and lime salad adds a touch of the Orient, and for something more local try the loin of Kinloch venison with sweet red onion marmalade and thyme infused gravy.

An Garbh Restaurant offers over 30 malt whiskies with the distinct advantage of having many celebrated distilleries such as the Highland Park and Scapa, Old Pulteney, Clynelish and Glenmorangie in close proximity.
