Your Reviews of Restaurant at The Blyth

J. R. (6 January 2009)

We went to the Blyth a couple of years ago on Christmas Eve with friends and the meal was very ordinary. One of our party had fish and every mouthful he had was full of bones, I mentioned this to the waitress, who said ‘what do you expect, its fish’! We felt very bad taking our friends there and had to apologise to them, we vowed never to go back. Unfortunately we had to go with the family before this Christmas and had to pay for the meal about three weeks before, which I was not happy with. I understand now why, once they have got your money they couldn’t care less. The food was terrible and I had steak pudding, which was so dry, the meat was hard and the vegetables were also dry. It was like a meal which had been cooked early and then heated in microwave, the portions were small and the staff just served it up and didn’t bother with us. Never again, this time it is the last time, I would rather go down the road and get a bag of chips.

I'm not normally one for writing reviews, but having stayed at The Blyth and eaten in their restaurant I would heartily recommend this place. The food is cooked well, sourced well and very tasty. It isn't ridiculously fancy, but it doesn't need to be. Even the sandwich they 'threw together' for us when we arrived very late was lovely; lovely fresh thick ham and big chunky chips. The sausages and black pudding at breakfast were fantastic. It is the only hotel where after eating a late night sandwich and breakfast, I have felt that I also really wanted to try their supper.
