Restaurant at The Borrowdale Hotel Description

The Borrowdale Hotel is almost as traditional as the Lakes themselves. Generations of walkers, climbers and just plain tourists have learned to value its homespun but quality approach, not least in the restaurant. The Dining Room is silver service, not too many of those left, and an undemanding but satisfying menu seems to meet the needs of regulars who return year after year.

A fillet of Seathwaite trout in champagne sauce makes for a loyal starter, perhaps followed by the breaded escalope of pork fillet with an apple and cider cream sauce. To finish, well if you can steel your will and give the local cheeses a miss, consider the pear and almond tart with maple and walnut ice cream. A sensible wine list masks one or two pleasant surprises, with house wine at £11.40.

Your Reviews of Restaurant at The Borrowdale Hotel

Major Pain (27 April 2007)

Wonderful location, stunning area and, better still, a fantastic meal, silver served by friendly, skilled and knowledgeable staff. Peter, Louise and their staff are wonderful that includes their youngest two sons, Matt and Ben who silver serve in the restaurant under Kath, Chris and Ivan's watchful eye. You must pop in the bar and see Mr Griffiths, well worth the entertainment! Great to still see a family run, independent hotel.

Tracey Errington (10 May 2006)

Such an enjoyable experience. A traditional hotel with a superb silver service menu. There was a wide choice and they used fresh, quality ingredients - many local to the area.

Next day we went back for a bar lunch which was equally as good, and I'm afraid that after our long walk we returned to enjoy an afternoon tea that was reminiscent of bygone days. Real napkins, homemade scones and proper coffee pots with hot milk. A delightful welcome, friendly and definitely worth coming back for a visit!!
