Restaurant at The Devonshire Fell Description

Originally built as a club for gentlemen mill owners, The Fell Hotel (as it was known) has long served local people and visitors to the Yorkshire Dales. The Devonshire Fell is very lucky to have one of those rare locations where the beauty of the local area is simply breathtaking, with stunning views across the River Wharfe, the Dales and the village of Burnsall.

The hotel was renamed The Devonshire Fell Hotel & Bistro when it was bought by the Trustees of the Chatsworth Estate on behalf of the family of The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire in December 1998, as a sister hotel to The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel in Bolton Abbey. Having completely refurbished the property, which re-opened in July 1999, The Devonshire Fell is startlingly different from the original Fell Hotel, as indeed it is from anywhere else in the Dales.

Lady Hartington, daughter-in-law of the Duke and Duchess, oversees the décor of The Devonshire Fell Hotel & Bistro. The design of the bistro and bar contrast and complement one another. The bar is bright and bold whereas the bistro is serene and relaxing. Both have the Devonshire Fell trademark, spectacular views.

Simple but interesting food is the highlight in this surprisingly modern dining area in the midst of the more traditional setting; more brasserie style than modern British. From liver and bacon with parsnip mash to Chinese style duck with wafer thin pancakes, it offers something for everyone including a selection of twenty wines under £18.50 a bottle.
