Restaurant at The Dial House Hotel Description

Welcome to the Which Awarded Most ravishing restaurant with rooms 2005. Now that's quite a title to live up to but indications are that it's all in a day's work for this charismatic, mellow stone manor house in deepest Gloucestershire where there is a constant round of log fires, fresh flowers and the sort of service that in some parts of England seems to have disappeared for ever.

Dinner can take the form of a seven-course appetiser menu at £55, or a more conventional three course, with starters of roast quail with a salad of confit leg and beetroot or pan-fried breast of local woodpigeon. Fresh seafood comes from Cornwall, to yield dishes such as roasted fillet of halibut with fennel barigoule, caramelised garlic and langoustine beignet, or from Scotland a pan-fried rump of beef with an oxtail ravioli and celeriac fondant.

Desserts include the mouthwatering salted butter caramel with roasted hazelnuts and malted vanilla ice cream.

The Dial House is rural sophistication at its best.

Your Reviews of Restaurant at The Dial House Hotel

Simon Horsley (20 January 2008)

We had Sunday lunch there recently as a party of four adults and two children and we were very impressed with the experience. Its position in Bourton is perfect for people watching the views of the river. The service was friendly, attentive and professional. I had chicken liver pate, which was good followed by bream, which was the best I've had. The others had roast beef, which was nicely pink and said to be great, and the vegetable was fresh and crunchy. The local cheeses with homemade chutney and a fig and nut cake were exceptional. The other puddings looked impressive too. With two bottles of house red, a good Chilean cabernet sauvignon, the bill came to £130. I can't recommend this restaurant too highly, but we will certainly go again.

Louise Carter (19 August 2005)

Disappointing! We dined at the Dial House for our 1st Wedding Anniversary and were very much looking forward to the experience after reading good reviews. We found the menu extremely limited and standard (no better than offered at a pub) but the quality was even more disappointing. The starters were very small, my husband had the chicken terrine which was gritty! To follow my husband had steak which he asked for medium rare, instead it arrived well done and cold!

After complaining we were shocked to find that the 10% service charge was still added to our bill, we are more than pleased to tip (generously I might add) a good meal but not a bad one. Pity really as it was a special occasion for us, we wished afterwards that we had dined at the excellent Wyck Hill House Hotel, as we had done the previous evening.
