Restaurant at The Falkland Arms

The Falkland Arms is one of those gorgeous country pubs with which Britain is so richly blessed, managing to be everything to everybody successfully. So here they have really comfortable rooms in which to stay, a pub which contrives to welcome both local people and those from further afield, foods which measures up to a decent standard, and a wine list which is certainly not lacking in talent. Log fires, ancient beams and period features make for tremendous atmosphere. This is a proper English pub.

Food is promoted via a blackboard menu and ranges from Stilton and cauliflower soup through chicken and ham pie to pretty delicious cheeses. Don't expect anything fancy, just well prepared, homely and wholesome food made for honest men and women. There are country wines to test your palate, clay pipes for use, not show, and a dose of snuff if the sinuses need a little titillation.

The restaurant is only open in the evening and for Sunday lunch, but a wide range of bar food from baguettes to full meals is served at other times, at a rather cheaper price.
