REVIEWS OF Restaurant at The Harbourmaster Hotel
Duncan Pritchard (8 February 2009)
My partner and I had lunch at the Harbourmaster Hotel earlier today. Less than average was the verdict. We initially asked for, and were given, a table in the restaurant, which we declined as one of us would have had to sit almost in the passageway; don't accept table 9 if you make a telephone booking! We then sat in the bar, comfortable but a tad chilly, and were asked three times by the same waitress if we were ready to order; once would have done. The starters were satisfactory; goat's cheese salad and smoked haddock with blinis. The blinis were a tad crispy for my taste. The mains, which arrived after a reasonable delay, were less than average. The vegetables which came with the beef were lukewarm and the fish pie would have been much improved by the addition of fish and a few decent prawns. The skinny chips were very nice. When I asked the waitress, who was very pleasant, for a bottle of water she said I should order from the bar. I gave her one of my looks and she agreed that she could bring one to our table. The lady at the table next to us sent her meal back; the meat was not cooked. As she said to us 'you don't want to complain, do you?' No you don't, and we didn't, but you don't go back.
