It has to be the very best roast beef meal we have tasted, a good selection of vegetables, roasted and boiled potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, always cooked to perfection and always plenty to satisfy the healthy eater. Traditional desserts, the bread and butter pudding is something to die for! The John Thompson's own beers are all excellent and the atmosphere is just great! I have been going there since the seventies, and the standard of food has always been absolutely superb, as are the owners and staff. The best pub for value that we know of!

What fantastic value! The roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding and loads of top quality vegetarian is consistently good - no, consistently great. I wish that we live nearer so that we could have lunch there every day. We would finish up incredibly overweight but thoroughly satisfied. We have only occasionally been able to have the sweets - being already full but when we have, we’ve found them also to be excellent. Do go there; it is well worth the effort to find it.
