Just to correct info on site I saw in January 2009 and still there in February 09. We dined at The Mariners at end of Jan.2009. No fixed dinner, it was all a la carte. A starter at £3.95 for soup, otherwise £5.95 each, mains at about £14 to £18.95, includes a vegetarian option, can't recall the price of the puddings but after a good first two courses you don't care. You can choose to have chocolate truffles with your coffee! Having been disabled for months by an accident, I'd warn that there are a number of steps in several places so an infirm or disabled person would probably need to ask for help in advance. Good food, well-presented, and the portions are not so large that you have to miss out on the full works of a 3-course meal. You can have a starter as a main course on request with portion size and price increased accordingly. There was background music, a selection of opera classics. As the hotel car park is across the road a little distance, do take care as there is a large road junction to cross, which can get busy in the season and peak times of day. I have family in Lyme so know it well. I feel the average price per person of £34 inclusive of wine that was quoted on site was rather low - we didn't push the boat out all the way and it was about £38-£39 per person, no wine just soft drinks from the bar, but cost shouldn't be the prime consideration when coming here. Make sure you get the glorious view across Lyme from the drinks lounge where you wait to be shown to table and have your first drink, and if possible get one of the three best tables by the window in the dining room so as to get the view. Further into the dining room means you can't see the view so well.

My wife and I spent three very pleasant days in Lyme Regis this September, made all the more enjoyable by staying at The Mariners Hotel. Good eating is at the top of our list and the Mariners came up trumps. By offering a varied but not excessively long menu, which would satisfy the most discerning tastes, they were able to provide food which was beautifully presented and quite delicious. The service was unobtrusive but of a high standard. The restaurant atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed, but would benefit by having well considered and appropriate background music.
