Restaurant at The Mermaid Inn Description
On a coast where smuggling used to be (is still?) endemic it would be surprising if there was not the occasional whiff of excisemen and creaking carts at 3 am. The Mermaid Inn provides such a background though it is more likely to be the ancient beams of the inn creaking these days.
Link this to a cuisine which has definitely come across the Channel and you have the recipe for a satisfying and well thought-through meal - perhaps the pan-fried crab cake graced with a mustard sauce, spinach and a subtle walnut dressing. House wine about £13, Carte dinner £34.
