Restaurant at The Mytton & Mermaid Hotel Description

Located on the old A5, now mercifully relieved of its traffic load by the M54, opposite the gates to the National Trust's Attingham Park, the Mytton as it is colloquially called sits beside the twin bridges over the River Severn with gardens sloping down to the river.

It is a thoroughly jolly place with a large and handsome area in front of the bar in which a variety of mis-matched, but attractive, chairs and tables provide no-nonsense eating space with plenty of room for large family parties. Beyond is a more formal area for those that like it.

The menu, whilst relatively short is well augmented by a list of daily specials. Dishes are generous, straightforward and served by cheerful, briskly efficient waiters. A good wine list is supported by a selection on the board from which most normal human beings could make a satisfying choice.

Fixed Dinner

  • £27.50 (2 courses) to £30 (3 courses)

Your Reviews of Restaurant at The Mytton & Mermaid Hotel

John (8 May 2009)

My better half took me to the Mytton and Mermaid on a Wednesday evening for a birthday dinner. Prior to dinner we were served a selection of olives, sun blushed tomatoes and popcorn. A somewhat bizarre combination! I had a salmon and scrambled egg starter which was excellent, followed by lamb which was to my taste, but I suspect others may have found it a little too pink! A sharper knife would have helped at this point, but other than that the main course was excellent. I finished with a trio of chocolate desserts from the specials which was lovely, if a little heavy in places - to my tastes fine, but probably too much for the average bear!. Service was generally excellent; our waiter was apparently very familiar with the menu which is always good to see. On the whole, an excellent evening out, but I suspect the chef has a trace of the wacky in him. To my tastes, but perhaps not for the ultra-conservative!

Mary and John Howard (18 May 2008)

We had an excellent meal at The Restaurant at Mytton and Mermaid Hotel on a Sunday evening and the food was absolutely superb. We had roasted tomato and red pepper soup with a spoonful of ricotta and basil in the centre, which was one of the best soups we’ve ever tasted. Our main course of roast sirloin melted in the mouth – it was magnificent. For dessert I had a pistachio cake, which was warm and very light with ice cream and strawberries, and my husband had a raspberry parfait - both desserts were mouthwatering. The service was excellent, with our orders being taken quickly, plates removed straightaway and the next course brought promptly. It was our fortieth wedding anniversary and what a wonderful place to celebrate it. The Mytton and Mermaid did us proud.
