Restaurant at The New House Hotel Description

Looking out over Cardiff the New House offers an air of graciousness which is reinforced by an essentially English cuisine with more than a few hints of the Mediterranean inserted. Seafood features strongly and a starter of fresh mussels pot-braised in coconut milk and green curry sets the pace.

The whole grilled Dover sole stuffed with Pencarreg cheese and spinach is served on the buttered juices infused with lavabread, but I might yield to that old favourite the pot-roasted ham shank, served on pease pudding, a delightfully fundamental dish, no test for the chef, but just very flavoursome.

To finish, if the time was right it would have to be the summer pudding, made doubly irresistible by the quenelles of Chantilly cream. An excellent wine list completes the picture, with house wine at £11.95.
