For countless years, now I’ve been visiting the Packhorse - mainly as it’s surrounded by numerous fantastic walks especially in Hardcastle Craggs. In winter time, here is my favourite with open log fires and hearty roasted dishes - generously portioned too, I may say at reasonable prices. The menu is extensive and a real meat eaters haven. I have spent late nights here, sat up with the owners chatting and drinking. They are really friendly people when you get chatting - can seem a little standoffish at first but a real gem of a pub and the ale is perfection.
