The beautiful Towy Valley at the foot of the Breacon Beacons, host to  castles and country houses seem to have escaped time, but the Restaurant at The Plough Inn has not escaped the watchful eyes of the AA inspectors. Having added a Rosette to its award kitty, this is certainly no restaurant of lowered expectations, and for a start the bright, fresh interior done up in warm colours demonstrate this fittingly.

Although the menu features 'designer salads' such as coronation prawns in a wonton basket with spiced salsa, it's hard to replace dishes that have turned out to be favourites over the years, think liver and onions, homemade lasagne and battered fish of the day. Then there are the well-crafted grill dishes, a 9-10 oz Welsh sirloin steak with a rich pan drizzle and horseshoe gammon steak served with egg or pineapple.

Many are impressed with the daily specials on offer and Sunday lunch and set afternoon and dinner carte bring in some kind of flexibility to your choices.
