Restaurant at The Red Lion Hotel Description
Elegance combined with a superb Thames-side setting just about sums up the Red Lion at Henley. Owned by the Miller family and recently given a major renovation, the restaurant has emerged particularly well from the process. The carpaccio of beef with truffle oil could make an excellent starter, particularly as a prelude to the canon of venison with roasted chestnuts and a potato and parsnip galette. Simply on grounds of curiosity I would be pressed to consider the deep fried homemade rum and raisin ice cream served with a lime sabayon, even if I did subsequently wish I had chosen the cheese selection with walnut loaf, largely because I adore walnut loaf - what a welcome change to the more usual accompaniments. A wine list to consider long and seriously accompanies all this (let's hope the cellars escaped renovation) with House at £12.
