Restaurant at The School House Description
The School House Hotel is a small Inn in the Wiltshire countryside hamlet of Hook, on the west side of Swindon. Previously a Victorian school and now a privately owned hotel, family run for nearly twenty years by Karen and Tonny Ramselaar.
The Restaurant is actually situated in the former main schoolroom with beamed ceiling and mullion stone windows. The a la carte menu is varied and changes daily, while everything is freshly cooked to order, and a good selection of fish dishes is always available. Vegetarians and those with dietary needs are catered for but do advise the School House Hotel in advance.
The School House Hotel owners are unusual in a trade where everyone normally seeks recognition, as they decline any classifications or awards, and prefer the restaurant not to be graded or reviewed. They believe that nearly twenty years of repeat business from loyal guests is the greatest accolade that they receive.

I reserved a table at £28.50 per head for my staff, for a Christmas meal. We were all looking forward to a great Christmas meal, but we were so disappointed. There was no festive atmosphere, they didn’t even greet us, or showed us small round tables that sat three - we didn’t feel comfortable and could not chat with each other properly. We had previously been advised we could order additional vegetables, but on the night we were told that we could only have bread. The food though, was quite nice. The décor needs a rebuff, and the head chef, a training course in how to be civil to people.
