Restaurant at The School House

Hook Street, Hook, Swindon, SN4 8EF

The School House Hotel is a small Inn in the Wiltshire countryside hamlet of Hook, on the west side of Swindon. Previously a Victorian school and now a privately owned hotel, family run for over twenty years by Karen and Tonny Ramselaar. The restaurant is actually situated in the former main schoolroom with beamed ceiling and mullion stone windows. The a la carte menu is varied and changes daily and could feature starters such as black pudding and apple baked with Mornay sauce, followed in an exemplary manner by the lamb roast with bacon, rosemary, garlic, apricots and seasonal vegetables and ending with the popular bread and butter pudding with custard. The School House Hotel owners are unusual in a trade where everyone normally seeks recognition, as they decline any classifications or awards, and prefer the restaurant not to be graded or reviewed.

REVIEWS OF Restaurant at The School House

John Cox (6 January 2010)

We ate at The School House on New Years Eve and despite sufficient cancellations due to the weather, we dined alone. Our hostess could not have been more accommodating, the food and service was excellent.

Peter (28 November 2008)

This is a nice comfy place with friendly service, and freshly cooked food worth waiting for. It is a great building for private parties and the bar is good.
