The Stone Mill itself is the centre of the action at this lively small country house which caters for parties, residents or passers-by with equal skill. The place is a riot of exposed beams, and the Cider Mill is dated fifteenth century. The menu is constantly on the move but to give you an idea a typical menu could include confit of duck with herb gnocchi, half a dozen rock oysters with Tabasco and lemon, followed by wild sea bass with purple sprouting broccoli, or bollito misto which translates amazingly as duck, chicken, ham hock and sausage with vegetables and salsa. Totally a superb experience! We felt welcomed the moment we stepped into the restaurant. The meal with the little touches made the whole evening a pleasure.

The Stone Mill ticked all the right boxes. All round the service was excellent, friendly and very helpful - they knew about the food, and even gave us the recipe of one dish we liked very much. The food was excellent and portions were more than adequate, even for someone as greedy as me. The peanut butter ice cream was so good it almost bought me to tears. Having been to restaurants in London where you pay over the odds for a meagre meal, plus vegetables, this place reinstalled our faith in eating out. We paid c. £35 a head for 3 courses, wine and a beer, would definitely go again, and hope they start selling their ice cream online.
