Restaurant at The Victoria Hotel Description
Built as a railway hotel, now enjoying a new lease of life as an upmarket gastropub, the Victoria Hotel stands redbrick and sturdy against all that life might throw at it. Great pride is taken in the freshness of the produce deployed and a nearby allotment groans beneath the strain of producing sufficient fresh veg for the tasty dishes served to an ever growing and appreciative clientele. For those of sturdy tastes there is the likes of Lincolnshire sausages and Champ, whilst others might prefer the galantine of stuffed duck. Overall the ambience is relaxed and distinctly unstuffy with the food a priority.

I have visited this pub numerous times over the last two years. I can whole heartedly recommend their superb selection of real ales and the wonderful ambience of a truly traditional pub. However, the quality of the food has slipped somewhat from what I always considered to be super food at a reasonable price, to a fairly mediocre standard. The spannokopittas for instance mentions feta cheese but I am dubious as to whether the contents even came close to any cheese let alone a nice salty feta. The Thai prawn curry could have come from a jar. I have had better and probably could not honestly recommend the food, but for you real ale fans, it is superb.

Great fresh food, makes a change from chips, combined with good friendly service, and a bonus, we could take our dog (in selected rooms only). Well worth a visit.
