Restaurant at Three Swans Hotel
117 High Street, Hungerford, RG17 0LZ
This 700 year old coaching inn in the Kennett valley has weathered the years well, and still retains the archway under which the coaches drove to the courtyard and the stables. Their proud boast is that they can "accommodate all your needs whether for business, pleasure, family holidays, or a weekend break". Within the context of a brasserie or the dining room the menu offers a starter menu that carries a series of small dishes from which a selection can be made. Tapas have come to Hungerford! Regular size starters offer prawns marie rose, and coronation chicken salad on their list. The salads are popular and include a splendid seafood selection, pasta with bacon, Thai chicken and prawn stir fry, and a warm chicken and bacon version with avocado and pine nuts. This 700 year old coaching inn in the Kennett valley has weathered the years well, and still retains the archway under which the coaches drove to the courtyard and the stables. Main courses include a daily fresh fish dish, bangers and mash, homemade lasagne, and 10oz rib eye steak with real chips, well accompanied by salads, chips, vegetables or mash depending on the dish. Be tempted by the homemade steak and kidney pie with a suet crust pie lid.
Puddings include chocolate roulade, a traditional bread and butter pudding and Hungerford Mess, presumably with a nod to the college further down river. To the question, "would you like your Movenpick ice cream brown, pink or white, sir?" there could only be one answer in the interests of research, of course
