Restaurant at Tickton Grange Hotel

Tickton Grange is a delightful hotel just outside the town of Beverley with its superb Minster, quite one of the best ecclesiastical buildings in Britain.

Opened in 1981 the Grange is now a well established hotel with a restaurant that has a string of awards to its credit as well as a devoted and regular clientele. The presentation of the dishes matches the dignified décor. Whilst the cuisine is modern there is a good selection of old favourites on the menu, some lightly disguised with an up to the minute swirl.

A glass of chilled champagne is recommended as a scene setter, to be followed perhaps by a starter of wafer thin raw tuna with fine green beans, olives, anchovies and sauce vierge. To celebrate the return of stock to the green fields and pastures of Britain, try the fillet of natural reared beef, culled from the East Riding of Yorkshire and served with brown cap and morel mushrooms. An Armagnac sauce made in heaven can be added for a modest supplement.

Because I have a consuming passion for walnuts it would then have to be the cappuccino coffee parfait accompanied by a walnut praline. A good wine list travels the world, with house wine at £11.95
