Restaurant at Treglos Hotel

It rained every day for my four day holiday in Padstow in early July 2008. Apart from a midnight skinny dip in the harbour, the refreshing highlight was the dining experience at The Estuary, the restaurant at the Trelgos Hotel. As soon as you walk in you feel you are going to be well fed, watered and looked after with bright smiling faces, welcoming lounge with comfortable sofas and excellent gin and tonics. There is a full menu with substantial amounts of local fish, what more do you expect? A word of advice for fish nuts like me, call them up the night before so they can source your favourites. We had mussels in a fabulous crème fraîche and WW sauce, deep fried tempura calamari - perfectly cooked, they were like butter. This was followed by sea bass and hake - both simply and perfectly cooked. Dessert of raspberry Pavlova was a little disappointing but didn't spoil the evening. With wine, drinks and tip etc. the bill was a respectable £90 for two. I'd give it 8/10 - a wonderful dining experience.
