Restaurant at Y Meirionnydd
Smithfield Square, Dolgellau, LL40 1ES
The Welsh town of Dolgellau is home to a classic Georgian townhouse called Y Meirionnydd. A visit there feels more like a journey back in time - original sash windows and uneven floors give the rooms a lovely country feel - some of which overlook Smithfield Square and the Cadair Idris Mountain. Diners love having relaxed meals in the friendly yet intimate restaurant, chatting between tables and staying around to enjoy easy conversation. It's hard to believe that the 17th century granite cellar was a rather austere county jail house until 1815. The chef specialises in straightforward dishes, well-created with minimum fuss from local ingredients whenever possible. Start your day with Welsh free range eggs, sausages and bacon. The Welsh town of Dolgellau is home to a classic Georgian townhouse called Y Meirionnydd. REVIEWS OF Restaurant at Y Meirionnydd
IORWERTH EDWARDS (12 September 2011)
My brother and I visited this establishment in July 2011 having read a favourable review which was dated a couple of years previously. The basement dining room, whose extremely low ceiling with its padded beams actually managed to make contact with my brother's crown, even though he's only 5ft 8inches; The food did not warrant the 75 pounds we paid even though the NZ white wine was very good. No keg beer in the bar only bottled ale. The restaurant has obviously changed hands of late certainy after the positive review we read.
Bob Jones (30 June 2009)
We had a superb meal at Y Meirionnydd. The food was excellent and the restaurant owner was extremely knowledgeable, introducing us to Welsh whisky, which is lovely and Welsh wine which was also really good. The whole ambience was relaxed and friendly and it made my birthday celebration really memorable. We will definitely return.
