Restaurant @ Pilot House Wharf, The

The Restaurant @ Pilot House Wharf is well integrated into things maritime. Its credentials include a location above a fishing tackle shop on the first floor of the former Pilot House in Swansea Marina. Add to that the fact that fishermen land their catch within a salmon's leap of the kitchen door and you have reasons to expect some of the freshest and best seafood in Wales. Nor will you be disappointed.

A starter might consist of chicken liver pate with a cranberry sauce full of zest and flavour. Main courses leave one spoiled for choice with a baked seafood thermidor au gratin taken as a main at the head of my list, closely followed by salmon with a superb Hollandaise sauce. For those looking for something other than fish there is plenty of choice including a splendid roast rack of lamb.

The summer fruits crème brûlée has a good crunchy topping, just the way it should be, or you might be beguiled in a moment of self-indulgence by a torte made with dark and white chocolate; while the Baileys Irish Cream cheesecake is a long time favourite

The wine list stops just short of being brief, not does it matter because the choice is so good, mainly below £20 and with some particularly favoured New World numbers.
