Restaurant Tristan

3 Stans Way, East Street, Horsham, RH12 1HU

A string of awards on a chef's CV is sure to draw admirers and for chef-proprietor Tristan Mason, winner of The Good Food Guide London Best Up-and-Coming Chef Award 2008 and Egon Ronay star 2006, it was only a matter of time before he could put his credentials on the door at East Street. Surely his stint at the Michelin starred Hare and Marco Pierre White's Mirabelle has helped him craft a menu that infuses creativity in an otherwise classic European domain. The dinner carte does well to hold the diner's attention by cleverly combining exciting ingredients like foie gras with cobnuts and quince, which arrive as a terrine, or wood pigeon with smoked duck, black fig and chocolate. The Moroccan flavoured rack and belly of lamb will hardly fail to register in your memory and so could turbot with oxtail pastille, chervil root and salsify.

Black pepper and pannacotta may be two different things, but watch them come together at dessert time with poached strawberries and passion fruit granita.

REVIEWS OF Restaurant Tristan

Clare (7 February 2011)

My fiance and I went to Tristan Restaurant for the first time on Friday. We were very impressed. From the moment you walk up the stairs you receive a warm welcome. We ordered the 5 course taster menu which was outstanding and the waiter suggested a beautiful New Zealnad Pinot Noir to compliment our dinner. As well as the exquisite food and service, the restaurant is beautiful. It is set in a lovely 15th century building with oak beams, but still has a contemporary feel to it too and playing in the background is contemporary bar tunes. Excellent food, service and surroundings. We will be going back again!

Recently I ate at Tristan's for the first time and without question this is the best restaurant for miles around. From the moment you enter the lobby area it is apparent that attention to detail is of paramount importance. The food was wonderful. The bread and olives, the amuse bouche, the starter, the main and dessert were all first class, my only criticism was that the amuse bouche made another appearance as part of the main course selected by my wife. We did push the boat out with aperitifs, expensive wine from the extensive wine list, port with the excellent cheese selection and coffees. The total bill including service was under £150 and excellent value for money given the quality of the meal. The staff were all very attentive and faultless in the service they provided. I have eaten in many of the country’s top restaurants and this is right up there with the best of them. When the only change I would make would be to the background music it shows how good this fine dining experience was. I will certainly be heading back.
