Richard Phillips at Chapel Down Description
Two well known names, Richard Phillips and the Chapel Down vineyard have got together to create a marvellous country restaurant in Tenterden that offers some of the best wines of England along with delicious and contemporary British food. The eclectic décor of this superb dining establishment varies from the buzzy atmosphere of the lively kitchen as backdrop or the luxurious privacy of the leather tiled room that curiously makes you feel as if you were inside a huge wine barrel!
The menu is peppered with choices such as salmon and crab fishcake with pickled cucumber and tartare sauce for starters, followed with grilled calves' liver, caramelised onions, creamed potatoes, bacon, red wine and sherry vinegar sauce as a hugely satisfying main course. The decadent dessert lists includes bitter chocolate tart with strawberry salad and milk ice cream while wines from Chapel Down naturally feature in the simple and concise list.

We recently took the family to Richard Phillips at Chapel Down for lunch. The venue and setting is stunning and the attention to detail in the restaurant is top class. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially with regard to the children’s menu. The food is very original and we enjoyed all of the courses. The staff recommended the wine with the meal and the Chapel down Baccus Reserve was fantastic. We will be returning very soon

This is a lovely venue, set in the vineyard with a great restaurant. We went for Sunday lunch and stayed all afternoon because it is so nice. The food is great and the sample menu on the website is very realistic of what is available. My only issue and the same for someone I recommended Chapel Down to is the staff. Whilst very sweet and it was a Sunday, they are trained to work in a restaurant such as this but do not have the edge of a top class restaurant. They are mostly local students possibly only working on weekends. I would expect a more attentive and polished service. We will return though simply as the food and venue is great.
