Richmond Arms
7 Richmond Place, Lansdown, Bath, BA1 5PZ
The Richmond Arms is still very much a pub, and John and Marney Cunningham are determined to keep it that way, although minimalist décor and wooden floors do not immediately support this image. About a mile from the centre with a pretty south facing garden, the delicately spiced, well-presented food, produced by the kitchen presided over by Marney, represents probably the best value for money in relation to quality that you could find in the Bath area. There are slight downsides, as the bar can get a bit of the smoky side, and they do not take credit cards or admit children under fourteen. But with food that good - it is included in the main section of the 2003 Good Food Guide - at prices so sensible, make you quickly forget that. The Richmond Arms is still very much a pub, and John and Marney Cunningham are determined to keep it that way, although minimalist décor and wooden floors do not immediately support this image. REVIEWS OF Richmond Arms
Jon (19 May 2011)
‘The Richmond Arms is still very much a pub’ is the only bit of truth left in the comment or review now. The Richmond Arms has transformed into something of a hidden gem. Well worth a visit, though it is out of the way, so is a destination pub rather than a part of a pub crawl. Slightly off the beaten track, essentially a house converted to a pub, the Richmond Arms is rapidly gaining a reputation for its excellent food. I don't normally have much time for your gastro type pub but the Richmond retains enough of the character of a pub to make it work. The staff are always very friendly and know what they are doing. The food is superb, the menus are imaginative and drawn up every week, the food is lovingly prepared and expertly cooked. Great place to take friends for a meal and the Sunday lunch is the best I have had. The real ale is decent and well kept. My only criticism is a lack of a decent quality traditional cider. It is fair to say it is more of an eating than a drinking pub. It is definitely worth a visit.
