River Room Restaurant Description
Standing alongside the River Ouse in the centre of Bedford, this splendid house built for the 5th Duke of Bedford in 1794 makes an impressive sight. It is situated only a few miles from Luton Airport and an hour's drive from Oxford and Cambridge.
Within, the River Room Restaurant offers a wide ranging menu of quality dishes that command respect. The surroundings are elegant and comfortable. Consider starters of roast pumpkin soup with sesame croutons or Finnan haddock fishcakes, spinach, poached egg and beurre blanc. Mains take in honey roast crispy pork belly, fondant potato, broccoli and apples, and pan-fried salmon, Parma ham, olive oil mash and tomato butter.
You could visit the River Room to enjoy sandwiches, light desserts or the traditional Sunday roast. More informal snacks, light meals and refreshments are served in the Lounge Bar. The hotel caters for up to 250 guests in a choice of rooms suitable for any special occasion.

Disappointing, I went to the Swan with my girlfriend on a midweek evening. We had the set menu and although the surroundings were lovely and service good, the food was really quite poor considering the price and surroundings.
We both had a meal from the set menu. Avocado with prawn in puff pastry didn’t' work. The avocado was cooked and bordering on mushy, the prawns were almost not to be seen and tiny and the overall flavour was reminiscent of school dinners. Beef medallions for the main course were over cooked and not particularly tender and certainly not a substantial meal.
The only saving grace was that the treacle sponge was good. Whether the a la carte was any better I don't know, but we shan't be trying it based on our experience with the set menu.
