Riverside Restaurant Description

Here's a place for everything - part of a 500 year old building now functioning as King's Lynn Arts Centre, a view of the River Ouse and some straightforward English cooking. The oak beams and mellow red brick walls create unique sense of rusticity and the atmosphere is one of friendliness, allowing for perfect relaxation.

Made from some of the season's best produce, the starters should make an impression with couscous, red pepper and aubergine terrine, fan of galia melon with a soft fruit compote, and brown shrimp and leek tart. Main courses cover plenty of ground with pan-fried lamb's liver and bacon, venison and wild mushroom pie, pork fillet medallions and haddock and flat parsley fishcakes. Tempting desserts include plum crumble and lemon cheesecake, and the lunchtime menu is particularly good value.

Due to the price, this is a place for celebrations, birthdays, wedding anniversaries etc., however, I have had better. The waiting members of staff were fairly capable but when I mentioned the fact that my sea bass had no pine nuts as described in the menu, I was met with almost a shrug and a mumbled ‘I don't know why’. I suggested maybe the chef would know and the waitress left with our plates; additionally, why would a dish that is served with mashed potato, fillet of beef, then also arrive with new potatoes? Starch and starch? We had no response to our query with regards to pine nuts. Eventually we had to ask for our bill, at which point we asked again about the pine nuts, apparently they don't serve the dish at lunch time with pine nuts and chef forgot, they charge less at lunch time - needless to say we were not. This meal was okay but only that, if the restaurant would like to get in touch I would be happy to chat.

My husband and I dined there for our birthdays, it was an excellent meal and lovely attentive staff. I highly recommend this restaurant.
