Riverstation Description

This excellent place has rightly gained a reputation for a sensible, user-friendly attitude towards the whole business of providing good food for people to enjoy in relaxing surroundings. They open early (café and deli) and close late so most requirements are catered for. When they say modern British cooking they mean just that, with simple, straightforward offerings: like steamed Spanish asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise; lemon and chervil risotto with langoustines and lobster oil; chicken liver parfait, red onion jam and sour-dough toast or fish soup to start. Mains might include roast stuffed loin of lamb with flageolet beans and spinach, rosemary jus; steamed brill with spring onion and olive oil mash, sauce vierge or char-grilled rib-eye steak, chips and sauce béarnaise. Desserts can be indulgent, for example sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and clotted cream or lemon tart with raspberry sauce. Wine list is cast in the same general idiom with ten house wines starting at around £11.

Your Reviews of Riverstation

Graham (31 July 2007)

I love the Riverstation - yes it is a bit pretentious, but this is balanced against friendly staff, great views (the dining room looks over the harbour) and the food is simple and beautifully cooked. I'd recommend this place again and again, and having dined there over the past six to seven years it has never disappointed me.

Ellen (28 November 2006)

This restaurant, although the food is nice, is highly pretentious and not worth the money.
