Rockafella Restaurant Description
If you're on the look out for a stylish fusion restaurant and cocktail lounge in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, this could be the place that meets your demands. Gourmet Chef Terry Miller opened Rockafella after rising to prominence when, as part of the team guided by Gary Rhodes, he won ITV'S Hells Kitchen in 2005.
The restaurant is known for its friendly service, an affable atmosphere and of course, a range of attractive modern British dishes.
Consider the Rockafella grilled prawns or sliced roast duck with pâté and raspberry dressing for a start. Matching cocktails create an interesting fusion of flavours. Mains on offer comprise sea bass fillet, poached with lemon grass, ginger, mushrooms and bean shoots, or chicken cassoulet with white beans, smoked bacon, fresh sage and a cream sauce. The beguiling desserts, which many will find hard to resist, include warm chocolate cake, or meringue with fresh strawberries and cream.

We went to Rockella on Sunday to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary; we booked online, which was so easy. This was our first visit so we were anxious with our party of ten but there was no need worry as Terry’s son Graham and the bar manager Michael made us feel so welcome. Then the food came and I ordered a T-bone steak, it was the size of navy’s vest and as thick but oh so tender and just perfect. The rest of our party felt the same ordering different dishes. High praise also went to the lamb; my wife had the Rockafella prawns, which were so large and melted in the mouth. It was absolutely beautiful with the thermidor sauce. We will definitely return to this restaurant next time we visit Newcastle. Our party was overwhelmed with the whole occasion and the food was the icing on the cake. So to sum up our experience, it was just brilliant - great food in a relaxed friendly place. I cannot wait to go back and thanks again. Rock on Rockafella.

After visiting this restaurant in January and having had the most expensive meal and a wonderful time, we decided to go back to the restaurant for a family birthday. I took my sister and husband who were visiting from Australia and had already warned them that it was expensive but well worth it. Having visited twice I would definitely not go again as we were all totally disappointed. I couldn't fault speed of service and attentiveness of staff but I ordered salmon fishcakes for starters, which I had previously and this time I only got one and didn't find any pernot dressing with them. My partner and brother-in-law ordered squid and king prawns, which was nice but only got two rings of each and at £6.95 a go this was too steep. For mains we ordered three fillet steaks and one scampi and chips, the scampi and chips were average but at £9.95 it was not really worth the money. The steaks were delivered and the waiter said the chips would follow; they did when I was half way through my meal. One of the steaks was requested to be a rare fillet and it was overcooked, the other steak which was meant to be medium rare was rare; I think they got them mixed up. My partner complained about this and the staff were defensive saying that’s the way they cook rare steak but they would give it another go. It came again and was much better but by this time the chips were cold and the rest of us were just about finished. The new steak had fat in it, which you do not expect in a fillet. While all this was going on all the rest of the customers in the restaurant had left and the staff started putting all the lights out, which made us feel really uncomfortable and as if they were rushing us out. The waiter apologised about the mix up with the steak but that did not make up for the banter we could hear being talked about our table in the kitchen after we complained.
