Rockafella Restaurant

Amen Corner, The Side, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 1PE

If you're on the look out for a stylish fusion restaurant and cocktail lounge in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, this could be the place that meets your demands. Gourmet Chef Terry Miller opened Rockafella after rising to prominence when, as part of the team guided by Gary Rhodes, he won ITV'S Hells Kitchen in 2005. The restaurant is known for its friendly service, an affable atmosphere and of course, a range of attractive modern British dishes. Consider the Rockafella grilled prawns or sliced roast duck with pâté and raspberry dressing for a start. Matching cocktails create an interesting fusion of flavours. Mains on offer comprise sea bass fillet, poached with lemon grass, ginger, mushrooms and bean shoots, or chicken cassoulet with white beans, smoked bacon, fresh sage and a cream sauce.

REVIEWS OF Rockafella Restaurant

Leanne (25 July 2008)

I visited the restaurant on Friday with my husband and my sister. Neither of us had been to Rockafella so we were quite excited. We opted for the lite bites and fusion menu. We had a drink at the bar then were shown to our table, from which we could see the chefs in the kitchen. I then noticed the chef was pouring a can of carling between three pint glasses and then stocked the fridge with the remainder of the case. Immediately I was put off as this was totally unprofessional and unacceptable. I had a prawn cocktail, which was a glass filled with small tasteless prawns, cucumber, tomatoes and some sauce. I had chicken sizzler for my main, which looked better than it tasted. It was quite salty and tasted like it was out of a jar. I then had the warm chocolate cake for dessert, which was the best part of the meal. In between serving our courses the chefs were walking through the restaurant. All of us were deeply disappointed and will not be returning to the restaurant.

Colin & Ev (22 July 2008)

We went to Rockella on Sunday to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary; we booked online, which was so easy. This was our first visit so we were anxious with our party of ten but there was no need worry as Terry’s son Graham and the bar manager Michael made us feel so welcome. Then the food came and I ordered a T-bone steak, it was the size of navy’s vest and as thick but oh so tender and just perfect. The rest of our party felt the same ordering different dishes. High praise also went to the lamb; my wife had the Rockafella prawns, which were so large and melted in the mouth. It was absolutely beautiful with the thermidor sauce. We will definitely return to this restaurant next time we visit Newcastle. Our party was overwhelmed with the whole occasion and the food was the icing on the cake. So to sum up our experience, it was just brilliant - great food in a relaxed friendly place. I cannot wait to go back and thanks again. Rock on Rockafella.
