If you have eaten in the award winning L'enclume restaurant in Cartmel, then look upon this as its little brother. Situated by the centre of Cartmel, it has a stylish interior with the main eating area upstairs. The downstairs bar area has seating and meals can be taken there. There are black board specials and the wine prices are reasonable. The tables upstairs were set rather close together, so don't be discussing secrets. It can also get uncomfortably warm in hot weather. The food is modern, with a number of fish dishes. If you want a hearty meal after walking the fells, this is not the place for you. The style is modern British with classic French influences. Portions are modest in size if not in price. The food however is cooked to perfection with many interesting dishes such as lamb sweetbreads, halibut and sea bass. The only disappointment was the desserts, which were expensive and not really interesting. So all in all, this is a place for a civilised lunch or less formal dinner in modern surroundings. Personally I loved it there and will return often.

I can't agree with the recent reviews as my wife and I had a good evening on Saturday. The food was wonderful and the members of staff were professional and friendly. We will be back soon.
