The restaurant is full of character and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is excellent, although a little too salty for our taste, with very generous portions. The house wines, which are sold by the glass or bottle, are of good quality and you don't need to spend more on fancy labels. The table d’hote menu was £23 for 2 courses or £25 for 3 courses and coffee is another £4. The house wines are from £13 a bottle. This brings the total cost of a 3 course meal with wine, coffee and service to around £40, not the £20 that is quoted on this web-site. That said, we had a main meal from the a la carte menu and a glass of wine, paid just over £20 each including service. We left feeling very well-fed, especially given our free salmon and caviar appetiser. We will probably return to the Roman Hotel and have no hesitation in recommending it.
