Rowan Tree Restaurant
Market Place, Askrigg, nr Hawes, DL8 3HT
Askrigg became well-known with viewers of BBC's All Creatures Great and Small, where it was depicted as the home of famous vet James Herriot. However, it has another claim to fame, and that is the Rowan Tree, a delightful and charming restaurant that serves delicious modern European food. Thriving favourably under the new management, headed by Chef Ian, Rowan Tree offers an excellent choice of menu and caters to most dietary requirements. Using locally sourced ingredients, which complement his culinary skills, he comes up with innovative and pleasing dishes. A meal there could begin with the butternut squash, leek and sage risotto followed by tender rack of lamb, dauphinoise potatoes and Madeira sauce, ending with light, creamy cheesecake with ginger crumbs and balsamic strawberries.Askrigg became well-known with viewers of BBC's All Creatures Great and Small, where it was depicted as the home of famous vet James Herriot. REVIEWS OF Rowan Tree Restaurant
Dave Eagle (13 June 2003)
This is a truly wonderful place to eat. It's small and offers a fairly limited fixed price menu, but the food is superb and so is the wine list. Try it.
