Rowans Restaurant

The Coppid Beech Hotel, John Nike Way, Bracknell, RG12 8TF

Barely thirty minutes from and thirty miles west of Heathrow Airport is the Coppid Beech Hotel, one of Berkshire's finest four star properties. Clean and modish, it is well known among business travellers with all possible mod cons and facilities expected from a hotel of this repute. Rowans is the main restaurant at Coppid and reflects similar elegance in décor with stylish seating and brilliantly used glass and mirrors titivating the interior. Appetizers such as crayfish mimosa, salmon pâté with red chard, pickles and smooth chicken liver and foie gras parfait help fuel the appetite for heavy mains that include venison on folded rocket pasta cooked in peppercorn and Pimms sauces and Oriental duck or prawn stir-fried with trevisano.

Desserts follow the same gastronomic line and marquis of chocolate, coffee and vanilla with frangelico cream guides the way, whilst a warm bread and butter pudding topped with Baileys custard is not far behind.

REVIEWS OF Rowans Restaurant

Wiztwas (29 November 2003)

Pretencious, tatty and not that good. Past its sell by date, the numerous repairs to everything show that yet another year has been leached out of tired fixures and fittings.

The service is pretencious, they attempt to add class to the establishment with "silver service". But they don't understand that service is about making people feel comfortable, not tutting because you trust that the wine is not off and do not wish to go through the "silver service" ritual of tasting it.

The chef deserves a better venue as do the goals and aspirations of the establishment. Probably very good a few years ago, I would wait until they have a refit before going again.

P.S.

* The average cost per head seems a little low I spent about £80 on a meal for 2.
