RSJ Restaurant
33 Coin Street, London, SE1 9NR
This smart Southbank restaurant serving fine Modern European cuisine is an oasis on the otherwise drab Stamford Street. Of particular note are the starters of mussel soup and succulent seared scallops, followed by delicious flavours courtesy of dishes like char-grilled swordfish with aubergine, tomato and black olives, or stuffed leg of rabbit. The wine list here is worthy of a special mention with a long list concentrating much of its efforts on the Loire region. Desserts, such as the decadently rich chocolate cheesecake, or the pannacotta with rhubarb compote are also well worth saving room for. Reviewed by Linda ButtleFrench, Modern British

REVIEWS OF RSJ Restaurant

I have eaten at RSJ on a number of occasions, including several pre-theatre dinners with a group of up to six or eight people. RSJ is very convivial, with a warm and personal welcome from the small staff, pleasant and comfortable ambience - if a little on the small side - and excellent food. As I recall they offer a two or three course theatre dinner at a price, which is very reasonable for this area of London and with a decent range of options - typically three to four starters, mains and puddings. The food has always been excellent and attractively presented. Nothing too exotic or extreme, just simple good quality ingredients well prepared with a slightly French or international cuisine approach. Service has always been prompt; this is obviously important if you are trying to get away for a 7.30 performance at the National Theatre, a five-minute walk away. RSJ specialises in Loire wines and you will find something there to suit your taste at a reasonable price. Very good value for money by London standards; I would strongly recommend it.
