Rupali Restaurant
6 Bigg Market, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 1UW
Abdul Latif's experiments with the curry are sometimes playful, but deeply satisfying; this British restaurateur of Bangladeshi origin founded the Rupali Restaurant, now renamed Curry Capital, which earned a place in Guinness World Records in 2004 for the world's longest-distance curry delivery. But residents of Newcastle-upon-Tyne have a reason to rejoice as they do not have to stray too far for their curry fixes. The menu covers plenty of area and the use of top-notch ingredients shines through dishes like hash maza, a bhuna styled duck breast cooked in a delightful combination of spices, garnished with fresh coriander, and the fairly dry chinghri sagella, marinated king prawns prepared in the tandoor then cooked with fresh spinach, ground spices, garlic and onions.Abdul Latif's experiments with the curry are sometimes playful, but deeply satisfying; this British restaurateur of Bangladeshi origin founded the Rupali Restaurant, now renamed Curry Capital, which earned a place in Guinness World Records in 2004 for the world's longest-distance curry delivery. Rupali is also well-known for its curry hell challenge, the ultimate palate scorching test with the curry.

REVIEWS OF Rupali Restaurant
Andrew (16 September 2008)
I recently went to the Curry Capital, as I heard a lot about this place from others. The décor is a little bit disappointing but the ladies toilets were immaculate and beautiful according my partner. She told me that they were very clean and light with fresh flowers. I must confess I did not take much notice of the men’s but I do recall they were clean. The service was attentive and prompt without being overbearing. I had the rupali mix kebab, which consisted of chicken and lamb tikka and a seekh kebab. My partner, Lorriane had the bhuna prawn on puri - both were delicious. We had a bottle of red wine, which was recommended by the waiter and it went really well with my lamb rogan josh and Lorraine's chicken tikka jalfrezi. The naan bread and rice were just right in their size and portion. We were both very full and enjoyed the meal immensely. The waiters who served us spoke at length about the restaurant and how they are trying to improve things. I was told that the owner had recently passed way and the restaurant is now being run by his two sons. They are starting to make small changes and there are plans to refurbish the place. As I said earlier, the place could do with a lick of paint but the food was really good. They do all the usual fare and the prices were in some parts on the higher end but our meal for two with wine came to £35.75, which is fairly reasonably. I would go again if only to check out the toilets! Best wishes to the boys who are running the place. I hope they succeed in their venture and make their late father's restaurant even better.

Visited it before it changed its name. It should have changed its prices, it's too dear for what you get and overrated.
