Rushton's Bistro

41-42 Stodman Street, Newark, NG24 1AW

Rushton's, Newark's well known delicatessen now has an exciting little bistro attached to it. Situated 'next door' to the existing family-run enterprise, the new bistro serves food directly from Rushton's counters and kitchens. You could enjoy mouth watering Italian, Spanish, French and English deli platters; whole baked camembert with fresh thyme and honey, or a platter of cheese before taking a look at the blackboards for the day's menu. Starters encompass fishcakes with smoked chilli jelly while classic dishes include such choices as sausage and mash; Moroccan lamb tagine; and confit duck leg, Toulouse sausage, and pork belly served in a haricot bean stew. The roast rump of lamb served with flageolet beans and spring onion mash, or chicken Dijonnaise with sautéed potatoes could hardly fail to please the dedicated carnivore.

Fish is represented by a grilled fillet of sea bass with provençale vegetables, classic moules mariniere, and Rushton's fish pie.

Desserts of raspberry crème brûlée and sticky toffee pudding rarely fail to please.

REVIEWS OF Rushton's Bistro

Max (26 March 2010)

I have now eaten here several times and I have not had a duff meal yet. I can be picky but everything here is excellent. Outstanding French classics! The staff are attentive but not intrusive and the dining room is lovely - just love it, you must go. As soon as I saw the pink gin on the drinks menu, I knew this was going to be good.

S Preston (7 August 2009)

First class service - very polite and the staff were knowledgeable about the menu when asked for an explanation regarding a starter and a fish dish. Chicken dijonnaise was outstanding as was the raspberry brûlée, the best brûlée I've ever tasted. The wine was good value for money. Only one slight disappointment was the cost of the vegetables. Although very tasty, felt they were a little over priced for the portion size. It would have been better to have two vegetables per portion. I will definitely be returning and have recommended to friends.
