Russian Cafe Cossachok
10 King Street/Trongate 103, Merchant City, Glasgow, G1 5QP
Café Cossachok is keen to keep its Russian roots intact, and the décor speaks for itself, red walls covered with native folk murals and tapestries live music and Sunday concerts complete the picture. The kitchen's allegiance to former Soviet territories, from Russia and Armenia to Georgia, is evident on the menu featuring dishes such as borscht country soup made with cabbage, tomato, beetroot and garlic, served with smetana and rye bread, or rostovsky, a duet of beetroot-raisin and carrot-garlic salads in mayonnaise dressing. Beef stroganoff may strike a familiar chord but the Siberian pelmeni ravioli stuffed with a spicy beef and pork mince, or chicken Vladimir with mushroom sauce and cheese topping, served with rice, may turn out to be favourites and who knows? Even the Russian incumbent may approve! Winnie the Pooh is no longer sought after by just little ones, at Café Cossachok it arrives the con miel way as a delightful honey-pot containing vanilla ice cream and almonds glazed with honey.Café Cossachok is keen to keep its Russian roots intact, and the décor speaks for itself, red walls covered with native folk murals and tapestries live music and Sunday concerts complete the picture.
