Russons Restaurant Description

This Church Street restaurant in Stratford upon Avon is well known for its delicious food and wonderful character that is evident in the grade II listed building where it is housed. Russons Restaurant serves up tasty modern British fare in an atmosphere that has old world written all over it, particularly with the wooden beams, flagstone floors and inglenook fireplaces. Proximity to numerous theatres makes it the perfect choice for a light meal before a show while local produce, fresh meats and fish used imaginatively in the dishes makes sure you will be back, reason or not.

From the à la carte, choose starters of smoked haddock and avocado mousse, followed by a main course of slow braised lamb shank with roasted garlic mash and green beans. End with a rum laced homemade chocolate truffle torte served with cream and choose something from Russons' commendable list of fine wines and champagnes with which to complement your meal admirably.

Your Reviews of Russons Restaurant

Food Addict (20 October 2009)

It’s an absolutely amazing family-run restaurant and I have been there on numerous occasions and every time I have had a fabulous meal. The prices are amazing, two courses for £10! The staff are lovely, friendly and polite. It has a wonderful atmosphere and amazing food. I absolutely loved it and will definitely be going there again.

Walter Paul (10 August 2009)

Despite a lifetime of visiting Stratford, this was our first visit to the family run Russons Restaurant - why oh why did we wait so long. We went on a Tuesday in August and everything about it is right - the welcome from the smiling owner and her waitress, the service, the advice, the pleasant atmosphere, and of course the food. Our starters comprised melon and fresh strawberries - not very adventurous, you say, but when as beautifully presented and fresh and as appetising as these, it is a palpable hit; I enjoyed the beautifully cooked red onion tartlet with goats’ cheese, pine nuts, and a fresh leafy salad. And, of course, being from Scotland, we had to choose as our main courses two of the fish dishes from the full, temptingly varied specials board on the wall - I enjoyed the whole lemon sole, served with prawns, chives, and new potatoes, at the ridiculously low price of £11.50, while my companion enjoyed his ample portion of the salmon fillet, Scottish of course, served with asparagus, watercress cream sauce, and again beautifully cooked new potatoes.

The self indulgent raspberry and shortbread stack with fresh cream completed this wonderful meal - add to that a couple of gin and tonics as an aperitif, an ideal bottle of Italian Gavi, bottle of still mineral water, and two liqueur coffees to round off this excellent repast - and we had to fork out the total sum of £85.00. Now I know that is a lot of money to some people, but not for what we got as described above, and for the first evening of our holiday. There was also a set menu, a varied à la carte menu, and a varied and excellently detailed wine list. Any complaints? Not really - perhaps the initial order was a little slow in appearing, but this did not worry us, and at all times the staff were efficient, courteous, and happy, a very big plus nowadays. Please give this family restaurant a try the next time you visit Stratford - I know that you will not be disappointed.
