Salud Description

Salud's spacious interior may pay true homage to everything Mediterranean with deep yellows, blues and plenty of plants, but rather than being typecast as a Spanish restaurant, it prefers to be called a tapas bar. Now that should at least satiate those gnawing tapas cravings but delve into their menu and there is more to discover.

Familiar starters feature in the specials, which cover all bases from escargots and crab claws to pâté maison and deep fried camembert, while scallops or lobster thermidor, lamb shank, roast duck with orange or cherry sauce and calves' liver and bacon make for some fine main courses. Salud values the great Sunday lunch ritual and have designed a menu for the occasion with fried whitebait, grilled sardines, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and perhaps finish with something from the sweet trolley.

Scotch smoked salmon, chicken croquettes and Spanish cured ham; yes they do hit the tapas button, and Salud is the place to go.

Seven thirty for Eight Supper Club (5 June 2007)

I took my ever increasing number of guests to Salud in May 2007. I was a little nervous as it was a new restaurant for us to try and no one I knew had ever been there before.

The restaurant is light and airy and perfect for a stuffy evening in the summer, with a large bar area to sip your pre dinner drinks at. The menu is extensive however we were all a little disappointed with the tapas selection we were given to start with. Not terribly authentic and didn't feel homemade.

We had more success with the main courses and many of my guests thoroughly enjoyed their choices but I had chosen badly with the paella, a house speciality! The desserts are served on a trolley and whilst you can over look that if they are to die for, again we didn't all enjoy our selections. However the staff did their best to accommodate our needs but I have to say we won't be going back for a return visit.
