Sarastro Description
An evening in London's Covent Garden Theatreland simply isn't complete without a visit to Sarastro, which describes itself as 'the show after the show', due to its theatre inspired interior design. Here you can sit in either the stalls, balcony or dress circle, or for the best seats in the house there's even a royal opera box.
The food follows a Mediterranean theme, with meze served as you peruse the menu. Great value is the two-course Tenor menu for a tenner, whilst on Sunday and Monday evenings you can enjoy the Opera menu for £25 accompanied by live Opera singing.
Fixed Lunch
- £12.50 (2 courses)
Fixed Dinner
- £23.50 (3 courses incl coffee)

This is one restaurant I would not recommend. I like to eat out and seafood is my favourite. I felt the waiters don’t know much about food and take wrong orders. It was hard to get their attention. The ‘big boss seafood selection’ is just a few spoons of shrimps and small bits of squid in cream and sauce. The décor was unique but the seating was cramped even for a small person like me.

I went to Sarastro with nine friends for dinner this week. To start with, they do not even give you the choice to eat 'a la carte' when you go in a group, it has to be a set menu. The price of the set menu is far too expensive for the quality of the food. The starters are all right but the mains were very bad quality. The duck was disappointing - two of us ordered it and we couldn’t eat it. The rest tried it thinking we were exaggerating and they were shocked, it tasted like liver. The pancakes were tasteless and the chicken very oily and salty.
I have been to the restaurant before and it wasn't great but not as bad as this time. A piece of Turkish delight per person and a tray full of not so fresh fruit was dessert. I absolutely love the decor and atmosphere of the place but to be honest, going there does not make sense to me.
