The Satay Bar is a fun and informal restaurant that is packed out most nights by trendy twentysomethings drawn in by the cool music and good value food. The Indonesian menu lists interesting rice and noodle dishes and as you would expect from its name a particularly fine chicken satay. There's a good choice of affordable wines but many diners opt for simply a cool beer or push the boat out with a jug of their favourite cocktail, the perfect way to kick start your evening. Although I found the place to have a nice atmosphere, busy with young people and the service was quick and nice, the food was quite a disappointment. It was served elegantly and stylishly on the plates, but did not have any of the strong flavours Indonesian food has. The sweet soy sauce was so watery, it hardly had any taste at all, and the starter spring rolls (you can always know how good a place is by their spring rolls!!) were bland - hardly had anything in them. The whole thing was more like a fast food take away than a proper restaurant, even though it all seems very nice on the outside... and I didn't feel any alcohol in my fancy happy hour cocktail... hopefully they are more generous with the alcohol when it's the usual almost £7 price.
